‘Fat Freezing’, or Cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive, no needle, no scalpel, no scar alternative to liposuction.
We all have our problem areas, like that little bit of fat that we just can’t budge. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get rid of it, without breaking a sweat or breaking the bank?
Well, apparently now we can!
The newest inch loss craze sweeping the nation is ‘CoolSculpting Cryolipolysis’. This type of treatment targets stubborn areas of fat that appear to be resistant to our hard work in the gym and/or the healthy diet that we stick to.
This treatment involves placing a membrane onto the skin followed by the placing of a vacuum cooling device over the membrane. The targeted cells are then safely exposed to minus zero degrees temperatures over a 40-60 minute period (depending on area being treated). The lipids in fat crystallise at a colder temperature than skin cells so only the fat cells are destroyed with no damage to skin or nerve tissue.
The dead fat cells are gradually removed by the body’s natural metabolism and immune system. The white blood cells digest the dead fat cells, so they don’t enter the bloodstream or settle anywhere else on the body.
A minimum of 3 treatments per area is essential for optimum results.
If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So it’s not to say we can gorge on take-outs and expect to look like a catwalk model after having this treatment. Best results will come from using this treatment alongside a healthy diet and lifestyle. Boosting the metabolic rate and drinking lots of water are advisable in achieving optimum results.
Who is an ideal candidate?
The best candidates for this procedure should be within two stone of their ideal bodyweight. This is because CoolSculpting does not suck the fat out or cause weight loss. It simply destroys fat cells and your body needs to metabolize the fat via the immune system. The area to be treated is a “fat bulge” which can be grasped or squeezed. Examples are abdomen, love handles, flanks and inner thighs; and smaller heads are available for upper arms and above the knees. Unfortunately the machine has no effect on cellulite or improving skin condition.
How safe is it?/ What are the risks?
The procedure has been performed hundreds of thousands of times, with an extremely high level of safety compared to other fat reduction methods.
Common side effects:
Temporary numbness, mild soreness and occasionally mild bruising. Most people say they feel essentially nothing after the procedure, but if these symptoms happen, they are mild and don’t require any medical attention or time off work or activities.
Rare side effects: Some clients describe the procedure as painful, although not enough to stop treatment and occasionally the numbness can last for a few days.
Can it be repeated?
Yes. We are typically seeing 20-25% of shrinkage after a single treatment. The metabolism of fat cells will be complete after 1-2 months, when a repeat treatment is usually considered for additional benefit.
Is it permanent?
Yes, you typically do not grow new fat cells as an adult, and the fat cells are destroyed. But if you gain weight obviously the results will not be visible. Once you get back to your previous weight, you would still have the benefit.
This is not a weight loss treatment. CoolSculpting refers to sculpting or shrinking stubborn areas.
